Getting out of wet sand
Ask the Golf Coach!

Q: I have usually been able to get out of bunkers using a lob wedge but just lately with soggy sand I am not so successful. Would a pitching wedge be better in wet sand?

Hitting an iron left to right
Ask the Golf Coach!

Q: When I am aiming for the middle of the green with my irons from 6 to Sand Wedge I seem to always go from left to right and ending up to the right of the green or just off. If I then aim more to the left to allow for this I then hit it straight sometimes and end up in more trouble. Please can you help me?

D. Haylett

Putting Infringement
Ask the Golf Coach!

Q: Hi there, I've been watching and thoroughly enjoying the action this year, but have a rules question for you. The Champion at the Bucks, when he putts, he puts his putter in front of the ball a little, then takes it back over the ball and takes his stroke. Is that not an infringement? I thought that you cannot cross your line of putt with your putter?

Thanks KJ Liu

A Tiger in Crisis
Ask the Golf Coach!

HELP! A TIGER IN CRISIS

Q: I recently played in a 4 day competition up on the Lancashire Coast. I finished 3rd overall, but I lost complete confidence in my driver.

I hit the damn thing everywhere, lost my confidence and resorted to hitting irons off the tees. I feel like I need to go back to basics, what do you think?

Cracking under pressure
Ask the Golf Coach!

Q: I play really great golf when I'm relaxed (eg 2/3 over gross - I'm a 7 handicapper) but when it's an important game I get so tense that I can't move the club head away, rotate torso, hinge or release club properly.

It's spoiling my enjoyment how can I solve this huge problem?

Long Irons
Ask the Golf Coach!

Q: I am having trouble with my long irons, with controlling the ball flight and getting a solid strike, any thoughts on this area of my game?

Overcoming the Yips
Ask the Golf Coach!

Q: I used to be a confident putter but am now alarmed to find that I have developed twitching whilst putting. It has severely knocked my confidence. I switched to a belly putter which helped for a while but can you recommend a longterm solution?

Swingsolving – Thinning the ball
Ask the Golf Coach!

Q: Please help! For the first time I'm starting to thin the ball - am I putting the ball too far back in my stance or just not releasing my hands?

Swing solving: Driving
Ask the Golf Coach!

Q: I'm hitting long irons and woods with a tail on them. It starts straight for 70% of the shot and then veers right quite sharply at times. It's prone to the odd hard pull but I think the ball position is good. What am I doing wrong?
