My TT Story – Siberian Husky Champ takes on the TT

Name: Lee Hodgson
Age: 39
Regional Championship entered: Old Thorns
Handicap: 17
Golf Club: Newport, Isle of Wight
Caddy: Paul Arnold
Occupation: Business owner of Isle of Wight Pet Supplies
Motto: I have a tattoo on my chest after a successful operation to remove some tumours. It says Vita quoquo brevis, Ago pro momen, Carpe Diem which is Latin for 'Life is too short, live for the moment and seize the day '

It's about finding that buzz
For me entering the Trilby Tour was about personal achievement - finding that buzz I used to get when marching out with the Royal Navy in front of thousands at Earls Court or that feeling I got at the start of a big husky race. I think the TT will give me that all over again :-)

I served in the Royal Navy for 16 years as a Senior Aircraft Engineer but unfortunately had to leave due to significant injuries (including a broken back) sustained whilst competing for the Fleet Air arm in the Royal Navies Field Gun Competition at the Royal Tournament.

I competed five times over eight years - I still train to this day but have had to change what I do to accommodate the injuries.

My days racing Siberian Huskies and beating the world champion
I have successfully raced Siberian Huskies in this country for many years winning all the major races and even beating the world champion Steve Hoppley. Nowadays my dogs are too old for working and are now happily retired sleeping on my sofa as we speak.

The day I turned to golf
The big issue I had two years ago was replacing these highly competitive events and being broken the usual sports I would have turned to I could no longer do, so I turned to golf - the most frustrating yet rewarding sport I have ever taken part in.

The synergy between personal development and competition is second to none. I am currently playing off 17 but my aim is to be 14 by the end of the summer and 5 within 3 years.

I can't wait for this year - I am entered at Old Thorns and I am more nervous about this than the time I marched out in front of 16000 people at Earls Court!
