My TT Story – Late Golfer in Bloom

Name: Stephen Howarth

Motto: Enjoy it with the zest of youth and the wisdom of age

I have loved sports all my life but only discovered golf at the ripe old age of 40 when the knocks at rugby and football were getting harder to recover from.

Golf has been a sheer joy and has been the perfect antidote to a busy job at the Director of Finance for the largest land locked police force in the country - West Mercia.

I turned 60 last October and retired after 27 wonderful years supporting police officers who protect the community from harm.

The TT & the next Chapter of my Life
The Trilby Tour was recommended to me by a couple of friends who joined the event last year and said it was such a terrific experience that they were joining again this year. So that challenge was too good to pass up in the first year of the next chapter of my life.

My caddy is Ian Savage, a life long friend from work and the current Chairman of my club, Worcester Golf and Country Club. Now I will be listening to his advice with even more care and attention than I did at work...

Good luck charm
My grand daughter Annabelle ( 5 and a half ) is waiting to draw me with what she thinks I will look like with a Trilby Hat on and that will be in my golf bag for luck.

Goldfinger fan and Stoke Park
I am sorting out playing Royal St Georges where Ian Fleming was a member. His Goldfinger book was based on that course and the film was filmed at Stoke Poges (now Stoke Park ) and I intend to play both with book and DVD in hand!

There's no stopping me now
I loved Ian Fleming's comment when told at 57 that he better slow down on the smoking and alcohol: "I don't want to ruin my life by prolonging it"

So my motto for the Tour Event will be fairly simple - enjoy it with the zest of youth and the wisdom of age.
